Retail, Hospitality & Leisure (RHL) business rates relief

RHL relief charges qualifying retail, hospitality and leisure properties under £51,000 rateable value on a reduced multiplier of 38.2p in the pound, instead of the standard 48.0p.

Retail, Hospitality & Leisure premises with a rateable value under £51,000 should be charged on the lower RHL multiplier (38.2p) rather than the standard 48.0p. On a £30,000 rateable value that difference alone is nearly £3,000 a year, and it's one of the most common billing errors we see.

How to claim

  1. Check which multiplier your bill uses, look for 48.0p (standard) where it should be 38.2p (RHL).
  2. Contact your council, quote your account number, and ask for the RHL multiplier to be applied.
  3. Request backdating to the start of the rating period if it was applied late.
